How my Ms Wheelchair NY 2018 journey blossom?

As My Ms wheelchair NYS 2019 reign is coming to a close end.. I still have not slowed down yet but decided to get back in my journey of blogging its been a while since I have blogged. Personally it was a year of a lot of self reflections.. decisions and more but it when it came to doing something that brings me peace and happiness I had and have the ability to give it my all.  I have been doing a lot with my reign and carrying out my Ms Wheelchair NY 2018 platform of bringing self advocacy into schools and building inclusive educational environment and   community.
When  I was first crowned Ms Wheelchair NY 2018 I was shock and pretty speechless but I want is in store for me and the question of how will I get my platform to shine or simply make that impact!
How it all started.
It Started from a simple conversation with a friend who got me to attend community education town hall events.. Networking.. being recommend and more.. i attend a education town hall meeting where i represented students with disabilities and meet with top officials from the department of education,, and had a few side conversations with them about my platform and from than the doors just open for me and the impact started happening,

Open my eyes to different perceptions. Got very involved in the community and attending events.. I attended my first community education town hall event and the true work of advocacy truly began.. when the school was not wheelchair accessible..

the light is the middle of making sure these students have the opportunity to learn self advocacy skills and find  a way to be included

Attended my 1st Cerebral Palsy

Oct 7. 2019 I attended my first Cerebral Palsy Conference in Hartford CT.through an organization called Green Mountain Support Services  To those who may not know I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 9 months old.  When I found out  out this conference related to my disability Cerebral Palsy. I knew I wanted to attend because throughout my childhood life nothing like this existed. For the 1st time I was surround by people with different types of cerebral palsy doing amazing things.. I also hosted my 1st breakout session called Dream Big Self Confidence through Self Advocacy..where i shared my story through my message through hope there is possibilities it was truly a pack house. The lack of accessibility for students with disabilities in schools

Recently I been looking at news media articles discussing the lack of accessibility in nyc public schools.. This also means the ability to fully access the school building. When I was going to school in NYC public schools I always had it in my mind that all public schools were wheelchair accessible weather the location is on the side of the building. At that time I thought that was okay. We struggle to be included and fit in with our peers.. be apart of the school community even if it's just simply being able to attend a school trip with their classmates. Yet students with disabilities being shut out of schools. Not only students with disabilities are being shut out of schools due to the lack of accessibility.. Parents have less options on were their child can attend school and it unfortunately the same for potential and actual employees with disabilities within the NYC public schools especially for those who are wheelchair users.
